Tom Edden is currently filming with Mike Leigh on his Untitled 13 project
and then goes on to work with Kenneth Brannagh in his live action movie
version of Cinderella. Confirmed cast include Cate Blanchett. Max Fowler,
meanwhile shoots his debut US feature Tokarev, an action thriller in which
he is cast opposite Nicolas Cage and shoots through July in Alabama with
Paco Cabarez directing. Fast & Furious 6 has also opened in both London & LA with Benjamin Davies in the role of Adolfson. Also on current general release in UK is the ‘sleeper’ hit indie film Papadopoulus & Sons in which Cosima Shaw plays Sophie.

Television:

Broadchurch DVDRoyal Welsh College graduate Chris Gordon starts filming the last ever Poirot, Dead Man’s Folly with Tom Vaughan directing.  Filming takes place in London and Cornwall through June.  Richard Dempsey and Joseph May film guest roles this month on NBC/Carnival’s reimagining of Dracula whilst Jay Simpson shoots Talking to the Dead a 2 part drama for Sky directed by China Moo Young. Catch up to with Broadchuch, ITV’s hugely successful crime drama which is released on DVD this week featuring new client Joe Sims as suspect Nigel Carter.

Regulars:

Daniel Coonan in EastendersEastenders has announced the planned arrival of a new bad boy in Walford! Congratulations to Daniel Coonan who has been confirmed in the role of Carl Parker and will land in Albert Square early summer. Daniel was last seen in BBC’s May Day as well as recently working with Mike Leigh on his stage revival of Ecstacy. Vincenzo Nicoli, meanwhile, joins Mr Selfridge for Series 2 of the popular ITV drama set in and around the world famous department store. Playing the regular new character of Uncle Giovanni, the first block will be directed by Anthony Byrne and shoots this month. Also returning, shooting in London and LA from May is Episodes, the Hatrick/HBO co production which sees Joseph May reprise his role as Andy Button for Season 3.

Geraldine Alexander returns to The National Theatre in a revival of Eugene O’Neils Strange Interlude with Simon Godwin directing.  Sara Powell will be appearing in Disgraced at The Bush Theatre, a new play by Ayaad Aktar which premiered at The Lincoln Centre, New York and now comes to London with Nadia Fall directing. Daniel Rabin takes on the title role in Oedipus which Steven Berkoff directs for The Spoleto Festival whilst Colm Gormley joins the company of Dancing At Lughnasa with Richard Beecham directing for Northampton and Oxford.  Jess Murphy and Molly Logan, meanwhile,  start rehearsals for The Globe season where they will be performing in Macbeth & Lightning Child and A Midsummer Night’s Dream & Blue Stockings respectively.

Openings:

The Winslow Boy at The Old Vic with Richard Teverson has opened to wonderful reviews. Cocktail Sticks featuring Derek Hutchinson has also received high praise for its West End transfer.  The Low Road has premiered at The Royal Court with Natasha Gordon part of a brilliant ensemble in Dominic Cooke’s ambitious production. Next up, Children of the Sun (Stephen Wilson) and Othello (Scott Karim) both April openings at The National.

Spring Shoots:

LogosKen Bones has been confirmed for the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary episode, details of which are being kept a closely guarded secret but has been written by Steve Moffatt and will be directed in 3D by Nick Hurran.  Pooky Quesnel and Jay Simpson have both signed up to Hartswood Film’s The Guilty, a 3 part drama for ITV  directed by Ed Bazalgette which deals with the fall out after the disappearance of a 4 year old boy.  Del Synnott joins the cast of  The Great Train Robbery playing gang member Brian Field and featuring in Julian Jarrold and James Strong’s separate films for World Productions charting The Robber’s Tale and The Policeman’s Tale. Cosima Shaw, meanwhile, shoots new Warner Bros pilot The Selection set in an apocalyptic world and helmed by Alex Graves. Sara Powell and Robert Hands film guest roles in Love & Marriage, Tiger Aspects news comedy drama whilst Rocky Marshall completes filming on Montana, a British vigilante thriller set in London’s East End and directed by Mo Ali.

Spring Watch

A young girl disappears from an idyllic community and so begins Mayday, the BBC’s absorbing new five part drama beginning Sunday 3 March and continuing.  Max Fowler plays the juvenile lead Linus with Daniel Coonan as PC Simmons. Also starting this week on the History Channel is the epic miniseries The Bible featuring Ken Bones as Ira. Coming soon to Fox UK, also with Ken Bones, is Da Vinci’s Demons which reveals the secret history of Leonardo Da Vinci. Over on ITV, bestselling novel Ice Cream Girls has been adapted and will screen this Spring with Sara Powell in the role of Fez. Also on ITV, set against the backdrop of the London Blitz, Daniel Rabin will be appearing as Granger in Murder on the Home Front. We’re also looking forward to Channel 4’s new drama Run in which Jay Simpson and Vincenzo Nicoli will appear. This fast-paced contemporary narrative is directed by Bafta winning Charles Martin.

Graduate News:

Children Of The Sun at The NationalScott Karim (RADA) joins the much anticipated National Theatre production of Othello which Nick Hytner is directing.  Stephen Wilson (Guildhall) also joins the National company in Howard Davies revival of Gorky’s Children Of The Sun in The Lyttelton Theatre.  Molly Logan will join The Shakespeare’s Globe company  in Dominic Dromgoole’s A Midsummer Night Dream and Jessica Swale’s Blue Stocking which John Dove directs. Helen Sorren (Guildhall) makes her professional stage debut  in The Miser which Nancy Meckler directs at The Watermill whilst on screen Jason Callender (Manchester School of Theatre)  can currently be seen playing new teacher Dexter in the BBC’s  hugely popular 4’o’Clock Club.

Max Fowler joins The Killing Season 3

Max Fowler The KillingMax Fowler will play troubled teen Twitch in The Killing – season 3 of the AMC/Fox US drama. Based on the original Danish series, the rebooted third season will see Max join the regular cast as the good looking, savvy, streetwise teen who is described as being as charming as he is manipulative.

Theatre Happenings

Feb UpdateNatasha Gordon starts rehearsals for The Low Road at The Royal Court, Bruce Norris’s new play which outgoing Artistic Director Dominic Cooke will direct.  Opening in the Court’s main house in March, it is preceded by If You Don’t Let Us Dream, We Won’t Let You Sleep in which Ferdy Roberts appears. Over at The Old Vic,  Richard Teverson starts rehearsals for Lindsay Posner’s revival of The Winslow Boy also opening March. Derek Hutchinson, meanwhile, will transfer to the West End in Cocktail Sticks, as part of the National’s Alan Bennet double bill performing at The Duchess Theatre. Amy Cudden continues in the roles of Rachel/Roscoe Crabbe In One Man 2 Guvnors now playing opposite Rufus Hound at The Haymarket whilst Roger Sloman and Jess Murphy round off their runs at The National in The Magistrate and People respectively.

Out of town Graham Turner continues in Orphan of Zhao at RSC, Stratford and Mark Stobbart takes the role of Issac in The Hired Man , Colchester/Leicester Curve co-production with Daniel Buckroyd directing.  Also Benjamin Davies begins rehearsal with Blackwatch for The National Theatre of Scotland. Msimis Dlamini continues in the UK tour of Soul Sister and Emma Handy opens in Thursday as part of The Adelaide Festival.

AwardsCongratulations to Lisa Palfrey who won Best Actress at the inaugural Theatre Critics of Wales Awards, for her role of Gloria in Before It Rains (Sherman Cymru/Bristol Old Vic).  And to Amy Cudden (Shallow Slumber/Soho), Hermione Gulliford (Lot & His God/Print Room) and Richard Dempsey (Victoria, Victoria/Southwark Playhouse) whose performances are all in the running for the 2013 Off West End Theatre Awards.

January Viewing

Stobart-and-Spokes-in-UtopiaUtopia has premiered on Channel 4 and has quickly been marked as ‘one to
watch’ in 2013. Continuing Tuesday’s at 9pm, several of our clients will be
appearing during the run (Mark Stobbart, Gavin Spokes pictured alongside
Hermione Gulliford and Jay Simpson). Spies of Warsaw is currently showing on
BBC 4, a beautifully shot war time spy drama with Richard Teverson playing
Roddy Fitzware. Meanwhile, Hat Trick’s Great Night Out is on ITV Friday’s at
9pm. The 30 something comedy-drama set in Stockport includes Naomi
Bentley in its regular cast.
